A Name is a Name

A Name is a Name is a road film that follows an intrepid Scandinavian traveler as he journeys across Macedonia by motorcycle. Along the way, this traveler – who never speaks on camera – listens to the Macedonians he encounters, people from different regions and all walks of life, as they tell their stories. Speaking with this unexpected visitor, they confide in him their hopes, aspirations, and beliefs about their identity, faith and nationhood. And, at a historic moment when world politics has focused on this people’s very right to their country’s constitutional name – the Republic of Macedonia – these heartfelt testimonials take on added poignancy and timeliness.

The film A Name is a Name is also accompanied by a captivating soundtrack, compiled of tracks donated by some of the world’s best known recording artists. These artists have graciously volunteered these songs to the film, and we thank them all for their kindness in this regard.

The film is also accompanied by a book, which narrates the traveler’s journey from the point of view of another participant on the journey, enhancing the reader’s understanding of the film and what went into making it, as well as more generally Macedonia and the relevant issues. The book also contains striking photographs, still images captured from the filming of A Name is a Name. All proceeds from sales of the book/soundtrack CD will go to the With Macedonia Foundation, to help us continue our efforts on behalf of Macedonia, its people and their collective future.
